Nesvakidašnja tema na filmu – priča o svecu. U 109 minuta, filmskim jezikom oslikan je život jednog od najvećih grčkih svetaca Nektarija Eginskog, praćen velikim nepravdama, progonima i optužbama od strane tadašnjih čelnika Grčke pravoslavne crke i Aleksandrijske patrijaršije.

Sveštenik običnog naroda, njegova poniznost iritirala je podređeni krug sveštenstva, a njegova predanost dodatno pobuđivala njihove sumnje i klevet. Upkos tome što je lišen crkve i prognan iz Egipta i parohijana koji su ga voleli, Nektarije se prepustio tome da njegova vera u Boga bude najbolja odbrana. Za razliku od svojih verskih „nadređenih“ – episkopa i patrijarha očaranim svetovnim počastima i moći – Nektarije je brinuo o siromašnima, učio seljane da čitaju i pišu, inspirisan primerima mladića koji su stupali u sveštenstvo, pisao je knjige i držao besede koje su jačale veru naroda. Uprkos naporima verske ustanove da ga diskredituje, Sveti Nektarije ipak osniva manastir na Egini, neplodnom i pustom ostrvu, koje i danas stoji kao svetionik hodočasnicima. Čak su i njegovi poslednji trenuci na Zemlji iskorišćeni za pomoć drugima: predao je svoju potkošulju paralizovanom čoveku u bolničkom krevetu do njegovog, nakon čega je čovek ustao i prohodao. Nadamo se da će „Božiji čovek“ probuditi paralizovanu veru u publici širom sveta.

Ein Film über St. Nectarios of Aegina: “Man of God” – eine Geschichte des Glaubens, der Güte und der Hoffnung

Im Zentrum des Films steht eine Geschichte des Glaubens und der Hoffnung. Die Verfolgung prägte das Leben des Heiligen Nectarios von Ägina aus Griechenland. Er war ein Priester des einfachen Volkes, und seine Demut störte einen gewissen Kreis von Priestern, die Zweifel und Verleumdung untergruben. Obwohl er der Kirche beraubt wurde, aus Ägypten verbannt wurde und die Gemeindemitglieder, die ihn liebten, gab Nectarios sich hin, seinen Glauben an Gott zur besten Verteidigung zu machen. Er kümmerte sich um die Armen, lehrte die Dorfbewohner lesen und schreiben, inspirierte junge Männer durch sein Beispiel, sich dem Klerus anzuschließen, schrieb Bücher und hielt Predigten, die den Menschen den Glauben näher brachten. Sogar seine letzten irdischen Momente wurden genutzt, um anderen zu helfen – auf seinem Sterbebett übergab er einem Gelähmten in einem Krankenhausbett neben seinem eigenen sein Unterhemd, woraufhin der Patient aufstand und ging. Und das Kloster auf der Insel Ägina, wo die Mönche lebten, wird noch immer von Pilgern besucht.

Der Heilige Nectarios von Ägina ist ein Heiliger der Neuzeit. Er starb 1920 in Athen und wurde 1961 vom Patriarchat von Konstantinopel heiliggesprochen

In this exquisitely made film, relive St. Nektarios’ inspiring devotion and perseverance as, despite the efforts of the religious establishment to discredit him and dismantle his good works over decades, he embraced humility and inspired thousands to become one of Greece’s most renowned saints.
