About the show
Sin of the Ancestors tells the beginning of the decline of an old Serbian merchant family; in parallel, it follows the waning Ottoman Empire and the birth of the young Serbian principality. The story centres on Trifun (Dragan Bjelogrlić), a wealthy leader of the Christian minority in 19th-century Vranje and the ancestor of Sofka from Stanković novel Impure Blood; the year is 1850. Hadži Trifun, a respected Serbian merchant, tries to keep the peace with Ottoman authorities while preserving his standing and influence in Vranje, an important Turkish town near the border with liberated Serbia. As Trifun prepares his two sons to inherit his leadership, he is troubled both by powerful Turkish beys and by his own family. He makes a series of hard decisions that will shape the lives of his descendants, the heroes of the novel Impure Blood.
